EL CAJON (CNS) - Authorities Thursday identified a 48-year-old man who was fatally struck by a trolley in El Cajon.
Andre Duff Zollicoffer of El Cajon stepped off a platform in front of a southbound trolley at a transit depot in the 700 block of North Marshall Avenue shortly before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to El Cajon police and the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.
"The trolley driver immediately attempted to stop by activating the emergency brake and sounding the ... emergency horn," said El Cajon police Lt. Frank La Haye said.
Zollicoffer tried to get back on the platform but failed to avoid being struck, La Haye said. He died at the scene.
The incident prompted the suspension of light-rail service between Gillespie Field airport and Main Street in El Cajon for about two hours, MTS spokesman Rob Schupp said. During the disruption, buses ferried commuters through the area.

EL CAJON (CNS) - A trolley struck and killed a 20-year-old man at an East County transit depot Wednesday, authorities reported.
The pedestrian rail fatality at Arnele and Marshall avenues in El Cajon occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m., according to the Metropolitan Transit System.
The victim died at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of his family.
The accident forced the closure of trolley service between Gillespie Field airport and Main Street in El Cajon, MTS spokesman Rob Schupp said. During the disruption, which was expected to last through late afternoon, buses were provided to affected trolley riders, according to Schupp.
The cause of the fatality was under investigation.
