CANOGA PARK (CBS 8) - Family and friends held a memorial service at Canoga Park High School on Friday to remember a Camp Pendleton Marine who was murdered allegedly by another Marine.
Last weekend, 19-year-old Lance Corporal Mario Arias Junior was found dead in his barracks.
Investigators say the Marine who beat Arias to death later jumped from a third-floor balcony. He is expected to recover.
Arias grew up in Canoga Park in Los Angeles County, and enlisted in the Marines last year.
His former classmates say they're baffled by the crime.
"I don't understand and it's really hard to think of why someone would just snatch his life away like that," one classmate said.
The suspect's names won't be released until formal charges are filed.
