SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - John and Wayne Woodliff are brothers-in-burgers, carrying out a legacy at Woody's Burgers in Mira Mesa.
"My dad opened up Woody's in Palm Springs, I'd say about two years ago," Wayne Woodliff said.
Recently, locals voted it the best burger in the Coachella Valley. Now they've opened a Woody's in the 7000 block of Miramar Road.
"It was a Boll Weevil for about 30 years, and then it was called Bangin' Burger for about two years," Wayne said.
It's here that Generation Next hopes to continue the Woody's tradition.
"Same menu, same ingredients, the same look and feel of the restaurant," Wayne said.
The burgers offer variations on a 100 percent Angus beef theme.
"We also make three-ounce sliders. One of the popular menu items is the slider sampler. You can pick any three of our signature burgers as a slider, and they all come together," Wayne said.
Woody's puts its own spin on their burgers by making all their own aiolis and sauces.
"Our fries are one of our customer favorites. They are beer-battered, so very, very crisp, but still soft inside," Wayne said. "We make our own onion rings, as you see, we make our own beer batter in-house. We hand-dip them per order."
You simply step up to the counter, place your order and pick a table or booth. The results are palate-pleasing.
"What we have here is our blue burger, which is the Woody's favorite. We have the homemade blue cheese aioli on the bottom. We go to the Hawaiian, which has teriyaki sauce, grilled pineapple right on top.
"The western burger, which has our homemade onion rings. We have our jalapeno burger, which has a jalapeno Serrano aioli. We actually caramelize maple syrup over our sweet potato fries," John Woodliff said.
For the brothers at Woody's, building a better burger is not only in their recipes, it's in their DNA.
