SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The San Diego Unified School District has received a $2.5 million grant from the Department of Defense.
Operation Thrive and Learn is a new program aimed at supporting students enrolled in schools with a large number of children from military families.
The money will be used to help increase students' achievement in English language arts and to make healthy food choices.
"The military and the DOD does everything they can to support the families that are serving our country and the kids that are affected," Board of Trustees Vice President Kevin Beiser said.
The money will be distributed among five San Diego schools.
