SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Parents and teachers celebrated the opening of the Stephen W. Hawking Charter School in Otay Mesa West Monday.
"Our focus of study will be science, technology, engineering, arts and math. We are here to bring that level of education to the primary grades," Lorena Chavez said.
The school is housed on the campus of Southwest Middle School.
According to administrators, lessons will encourage collaboration and project-based learning.
This is the second Hawking charter school in San Diego county. The first opened last year in Chula Vista.
