RANCHO PENSAQUITOS (CBS 8) - The RV carrying a Vista family exploded on Interstate 15 Thursday evening.
The fire happened in the southbound lanes of I-15 in Rancho Penasquitos near Poway Road.
Troy and Michelle Taylor said they called a tire repair man to fix a flat but as he was underneath the RV it went up flames.
"The flame was right there so I lost a little facial hair," said J.C. McNabb with Richard's Mobile Tire Service.
The Taylor's said they were on their way to Phoenix for a Nascar race when their RV got a flat. They believe the bent frame from the flat tire ignited the fractured propane line.
"It went up in seconds. I couldn't believe how fast those things burn," said Troy Taylor.
The Taylor's are thanking the repair man who came to their rescue to fix the tire.
"I don't know about a hero I was just trying to keep everyone safe and do what I could to get the fire out and make sure everyone was out of the way," said McNabb.
The fire department is still investigating the cause of the fire.
