KEARNY MESA (CNS) - Two children and two female lifeguards were treated at a hospital Saturday for exposure to chemicals in a YMCA pool.
The incident occurred about 12:30 p.m. at Toby Wells YMCA at 5105 Overland Drive, San Diego Fire Department (SDFD) PIO Maurice Luque said.
"We got a call that four people were complaining of shortness of breath and we went there and determined that the pool was too acidic," Luque said. "Apparently, there was a problem with the pool's injection system in maintaining a proper chemical balance."
Luque said the small pool was drained and the injection system was fixed before it was refilled.
Luque said a brother and sister, who were not identified, were taken to Rady's Children's Hospital for treatment. He said one female lifeguard was taken to Sharp Hospital for treatment and another was taken to Kaiser Hospital.
"It wasn't any kind of life-threatening situation," Luque said of the four hospitalized people.
