SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An American Airlines flight from Dallas to San Diego was diverted to Phoenix Sunday as the FBI investigated a bomb threat made on Twitter.
Airport operations officials at San Diego's Lindbergh Field received a call about 11:30 a.m. Sunday from the Transportation Security Administration's Coordination Center that the FBI was investigating a tweet about possible explosives on board American Airlines Flight 362 from Dallas-Fort Worth to San Diego, said Rebecca Bloomfield of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority.
American Airlines Flight 362 was schedule to land in San Diego at 12:15 p.m., but FBI officials diverted the flight to Phoenix, where it landed about 12:05 p.m., Bloomfield said.
Operations at Lindbergh Field were normal at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, Bloomfield said.
The threat appeared to be sent by Twitter user LizardSquad about 10:45 a.m. Sunday. It was addressed to American Airlines' official Twitter account and read, "We have been receiving reports that j-smedley's plane #362 from DFW to SAN has explosives on-board, please look into this."
The account mentioned in "Lizard Squad's" threatening tweet apparently belonged to John Smedley, the president of Sony Online Entertainment. "Lizard Squad" also claimed credit earlier in the day for an attack against Sony's PlayStation Network, which the company confirmed in a statement.
