SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 12-year-old girl and 80-year-old woman were rescued from Cowles Mountain by helicopter Saturday in separate incidents.
Crews from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department were dispatched at 10:11 a.m. to the popular hiking mountain in Mission Trails Regional Park for a 12-year-old girl who injured her ankle, SDFRD spokesman Lee Swanson said.
A helicopter hoisted the girl off the mountain and she was transported to Sharp Grossmont hospital, Swanson said.
Before rescue crews left the area they received a second call: an 80-year-old woman with heat prostration needed medical aid on the mountain, Swanson said. The rescue helicopter hoisted the woman off the mountain and she was taken to a hospital to be treated for heat-related issues.
