SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - All lanes of northbound Interstate 5 are open, after an early morning big rig fire at Las Pulgas. The fire shut down two right lanes of northbound I-5 just north of Las Pulgas in the middle of Camp Pendleton until just before 11 a.m. Wednesday.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the brakes on the tractor trailer caught fire just after 1:00 a.m. Flames quickly spread to the inside of the truck, engulfing a load of furniture and filling the air with thick smoke.
Camp Pendleton firefighters say it took time to put out the blaze because of flare-ups inside the cabin.
