Stopping these chickens from crossing the road

San Diego police officers found themselves in the middle of a bizarre situation in the South Bay on Tuesday.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - San Diego police officers arrived at the scene of a bizarre situation in the South Bay on Tuesday.

They were called in to help round up several hens and baby chickens running loose at the corner of Interstate 805 and San Ysidro Boulevard. Animal control officers arrived at the scene to help with the round up.

According to police, the chickens were spotted standing on the side of the road looking like they were going to try and cross San Ysidro Boulevard. According to local residents, the chickens are known to have lived in the area for a long time.

Officers worked quickly to capture the hens first. With the hens in custody, officers were able to coax the little chicks out of the bushes with food.

The chickens will be checked out at animal control and then taken to a local shelter where they will be put up for adoption.
