SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A man is in custody Friday morning, after crashing a stolen BMW into a fire hydrant and a tree in Rancho Bernardo.
California Highway Patrol says officers first spotted the car just before 7:30 a.m. Thursday night, going about 130 miles-per-hour on the 15 south near Old Highway 395.
The CHP unit couldn't catch-up and the BMW blew by another officer further down the freeway.
The driver eventually exited at West Bernardo Drive and quickly lost control, slamming into the hydrant and tree.
He ran from the crash, but was taken into custody a short time later.
The car was reported stolen in Beverly Hills, police said.
