SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man found naked and violent in a Mission Valley motel room was handcuffed, went into some sort of medical distress and then died at a hospital, prompting an investigation into his cause of death on Sunday.
Around 8:30 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a call of a fight taking place inside a motel room in the 1200 block of Hotel Circle South in Mission Valley.
Officers who arrived heard a struggle and called for back-up and a police dog, according to SDPD Lt. Mike Hastings. They announced their presence, entered the room and found only one person: a naked white man in his 30s.
The man was violent, would not comply with their directions, refused to be handcuffed and kicked at them, Hastings said.
Officers were able to handcuff the man and called for paramedics because of the man's behavior.
While waiting for them to arrive, the man went into medical distress and officers employed life saving measures, according to Hastings.
The man was taken to a hospital and was pronounced dead a short time later.
The medical examiner's office will perform an autopsy to determine the man's cause of death. Police have not released the name of the man.
Police asked anyone with information to call the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
