LA JOLLA (CBS 8) - The La Jolla Cove Swim Club held its annual Polar Bear Plunge at La Jolla Shores beach.
Hundreds of brave souls jumped into the 60-degree Pacific Ocean.
One swimmer said there's no better way to end the year.
"The camaraderie of it all. I think humans gather together as the new year begins," one participant said.
The annual event also featured a giant potluck picnic with hot chili and soup, which helped warm up the participants.
