Man accused of groping at SDSU arrested again

A man accused of groping a woman at San Diego State was arrested for the second time just one day after he was first released.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A man accused of groping a woman at San Diego State was arrested for the second time just one day after he was first released.

According to police, Robbie Shumate, 28, was arrested a second time after allegedly harassing women at San Diego City College.

San Diego City College campus police said around ten female students reported Shumate harassing them and aggressively asking them for their phone number on Tuesday morning.

The incidents were reported to have taken place outside the V building known for its cosmetology school.

Officers located and arrested Shumate a block away from the Saville Theater. He was arrested for being under the influence of drugs.

One of the female students reported that Shumate had grabbed her arm and he now faces battery charges.

On Monday, San Diego State University police released a safety notification about Shumate. The notification said he had been taken into custody on Sunday for groping a student near the campus.

He was released but he returned and was seen lurking around campus.

Both campus police departments said Robbie Shumate is not a student. Authorities said he is in custody but asked anyone with information about the suspected groper to call police.

According to jail officials, records show Escondido police arrested Shumate last week for being drunk in public. Records also showed he was also arrested in 2012 for misdemeanor battery and annoying a child under the age of 18-years.
