LA JOLLA (CNS) - A family member has identified the body found Friday on the shore near Windansea Beach as that of Tony Nguyen, a San Diego Fire-Rescue spokesman said.
Nguyen, 43, of San Diego, had been missing for two days.
The body was located off Palomar Street at around 11:30 a.m., according to spokesman Lee Swanson. He said the county medical examiner's office was also called to the scene.
Lifeguards had resumed their search for Nguyen, owner of a boat that capsized off Windansea Beach, earlier today in La Jolla. Authorities searched for Nguyen from dawn to dusk Thursday but suspended the search shortly after sunset.
Search efforts got underway Wednesday night after Nguyen's 25-foot powerboat overturned during a lobster fishing trip, sending him and his four companions into the water. Lifeguards quickly rescued the other men, all of whom were wearing life jackets.
A Coast Guard cutter and Jayhawk helicopter crew scanned the ocean waters and shoreline overnight Wednesday and remained on the job Thursday, officials said.
Paramedics took the rescued fishermen to hospitals for treatment of minor injuries, along with a lifeguard who was blindsided by a wave and swallowed seawater, according to lifeguard officials.
