SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) – Hurricane Rosa, in the eastern Pacific, on Thursday night was upgraded to a major category 4 hurricane with 125 MPH sustained winds.
The latest forecast from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) shows the storm moving west at about 12 mph on Thursday before slowing down and turning to the west-northwest on Friday.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said Hurricane Rosa will weaken over the weekend, but its remnants could bring heavy rainfall to the southwestern United States early next week.
The NHC said swells generated by Rosa will affect portions of southwestern Mexico’s coast and the southern Baja California Peninsula late this week and over the weekend.
Hurricane Rosa is forecasted to turn sharply north and gradually weaken as it heads toward northern Baja California.
