Windy Weekend On The Way

Friday, October 10, 2008

Fire Danger On The Rise
You've no doubt noticed the major change in San Diego's weather, from the offshore flow and record heat to significantly COLDER temperatures yesterday and today. Low pressure is moving in from the northwest, and it's going to take a few days to move through here.

Pretty much the whole time it's going to be around, you can expect some windy conditions. The recent heat and very very dry air has decreased the available fuel moisture around San Diego county, so winds of ANY type will cause our fire danger to be elevated. That means even without the record heat, strong winds that are expected this weekend should be making all San Diegans take extra pre-cautions outside this weekend.

The winds are expected to start later tonight out in our mountains and deserts - a Wind Advisory is in effect for that part of the county overnight.
Then, northeast winds on the back side of the low will cause offshore flow to ramp up once again. That means by Sunday (late in the day, most likely) you'll see some strong Santa Ana winds developing. Those winds will cause temperatures to soar on Monday and Tuesday - and keep the fire danger high through the period.

There's never been a "clearer" weather forecast, if you can get past the hair that's out of place. And sometimes the pattern on the tie. Did we mention the tie?
