SAN DIEGO — Police are looking for the person responsible for defacing a controversial statue of Christopher Columbus in Chula Vista, according to police.
Police discovered the statue Monday morning in Discovery Park at 700 Buena Vista Way had been vandalized with paint, police said.
It comes right after a rally, where indigenous people marked the weekend by protesting the statue, asking for it to be removed because they say it’s a symbol of opposition.
City crews are cleaning off the paint and officers are conducting an investigation.
If anyone has information as to the suspect or suspects responsible for the vandalism, please contact Chula Vista police at (619) 691-5151.
