Firefighters battled commercial fire at an Escondido car wash

Crews said the fire broke out before 2 a.m. Thursday on North Escondido Boulevard.

ESCONDIDO, Calif. — Multiple fire crews battled a fire at an unoccupied car wash in Escondido Thursday morning. 

Escondido firefighters received a call about the fire in the 700 block of North Escondido Boulevard just before 2 a.m. The fire caused a part of the building to collapse, said Chief Tyler Batson. 

No injuries were reported. 

Chief Batson also said crews worked to protect nearby businesses.

The cause of the fire is not known. 

Roads were expected to be impacted until the afternoon, said Chief Batson.

The California Highway Patrol issued a sig-alert just after 4 a.m. for East Mission Avenue and State Route 78.
