SAN DIEGO — A man is behind bars after a chase on Friday night in Valley Center ended in damaged vehicles and a K-9 officer deployed.
The San Diego Sheriff's Department received a 911 call shortly before 10 p.m. from the 141000 block of Kelowna Lane in Valley Center where a woman could be heard screaming in the background, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they said they observed a man forcing a woman into a car. Deputies issued commands for the man to stop, but he refused to comply, according to Lt. Carpenter.
The man got into the vehicle with the woman inside and fled the scene. A deputy jumped out of the way and suffered only minor injuries as the suspect also sideswiped a patrol car.
A Sheriff's helicopter was deployed and the suspect's vehicle was relocated by deputies a short time later.
Deputies tried to perform a traffic stop, but the suspect did not comply and the pursuit continued. After that attempt to stop the vehicle, deputies performed a high-risk traffic stop.
Deputies managed to take control of the vehicle while the suspect attempted to change gears. The suspect's vehicle backed into another patrol car during the high-risk stop.
During the high-risk stop, a K-9 officer was deployed, entered the vehicle, and the suspect was apprehended without further incident.
The suspect has not been identified in this case yet. The man was taken to a local area hospital for treatment and then processed by law enforcement. He is facing charges of kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, and drugs for sale.
