SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - San Diegans are used to April showers, but Mother Nature is throwing us a curveball for May, and many locals aren't too happy about it.
Every San Diegan knows the month of May brings a lot of gray, but lately Mother Nature has been pusing the elements to the extreme and testing the sunny side of Scott Gruby, who confesses on his blog he is a weather wimp.
"Sometimes I have to wear a sweatshirt and this time of year it just seems it shouldn't really happen," he said.
Dozens of other San Diegans have posted complaints on Facebook and Twitter, calling the weird weather "as fickle as a toddler" and saying "boo" to the cold cloud cover. But others are taking the variation in stride, saying "it's nice to have a tan with a peacoat on."
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will be five to 10 degrees cooler this week than the 65-70 degrees we saw this time last year. Forecasters say the change is all due to a big storm headed our way.
We saw the first wave blow through on Sunday, and by Tuesday morning meteorologists predict showers throughout the day that could dump anywhere from a quarter of an inch to an inch of rain. A third wave is expected to hit Thursday, and there could even be a dusting of snow in the mountains.
While it looks as though locals will have to keep those jackets and raincoats around a little longer than they'd prefer, Scott Gruby says he's ready for Mother Nature to get rid of her forecast funk.
"Let's start summer!" he said.
