SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The Fish Market Restaurant re-opened for business Monday on the San Diego Waterfront.
A grease fire damaged the Fish Market in May, causing more than $1 million in damages and the owners have spent the last few months rebuilding.
"We're excited, super excited. It's just a long time coming. We're happy to be open," said Ai Ybarrondo.
Two months ago the big fire that broke out on the second floor forced the restaurant to close.
No one was injured, and after the incident, the owners had two goals, re-open as soon as possible, and keep their employees.
"For me personally this is actually the second time I get to open this restaurant. I was here when we opened it in December of 1989, so to be here in 2015 is really exciting," said Dwight Colton-VP of Operations.
The new Fish Market features new aesthetics inside, new ventilation system, and a new fire system.
It's the classic food that had people like Jeremy Morris at the oyster bar for breakfast coming back. He and his friends are regulars, and it's like a second home.
"I saw on their Facebook page, and said today's the day. I've been coming here since, 22-23 years ago. You just can't beat the food the taste. It's always on point," said Morris.
Along with the re-opening of the Fish Market, its sushi, oyster and cocktail bars, as well as the retail seafood market are open and fully operational.
The top of the market restaurant remains closed.
