A car crashed into a fire hydrant in Mission Valley Friday, searing it off and sending water gushing into the street, authorities said.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A car crashed into a fire hydrant in Mission Valley Friday, searing it off and sending water gushing into the street, authorities said.

The crash in the 2600 block of Camino del Rio South occurred shortly before 5 a.m., according to San Diego police and the city's Public Utilities Department. No injuries were reported.

Repairs were expected to be complete late this afternoon, according to utility department spokesman Arian Collins. Until then, several businesses in the area were without water service, he said.
