SAN DIEGO (CBS 8 / CNS) - Murder charges were filed Tuesday against three people accused of involvement in a shootout in a Paradise Hills apartment in October 2010 that killed veteran San Diego police Officer Christopher Wilson.
Alex Charfauros, 26, Melissa Ortiz, 21, and Patrick Luangrath, 19, are also charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to obstruct justice and other drug and gun-related charges.
Arraignment was set for Tuesday afternoon at the downtown courthouse.
"Officer Wilson's death shook the community and reminded us all about the daily dangers faced by law enforcement in San Diego," said District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis. "The criminal charges filed today are the first step in holding the defendants accountable for their conduct that evening."
"To have all of this come to lightm, it is surprising to us," said Wilson's former Wife, Tracy Wilson. "But in a very good way. If they played any part in it, they deserve what's coming to them, and Chris deserves nothing less."
San Diego police officers were assisting the U.S. Marshals Service and San Diego County Probation officers in a compliance check when the shooting occurred about 11 p.m. last Oct. 27.
Each of the defendants faces up to 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
