SAN DIEGO — San Diego football's Ja'Seem Reed is one of the top wide receivers in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision.
His 11 receiving touchdowns ranks fourth in the FCS. His 1,004 receiving yards ranks fifth in the FCS.
He's also the first 1,000 yard receiver and double digit touchdown receiver for the Toreros since 2020 when Michael Bandy did it.
Before the season, Reed set a goal to get 1,000 yards and 10 receiving touchdowns. He set that goal in last weekend's win against Stetson in a 121 yard receiving game where he scored three touchdowns.
"Oh yeah, 100 percent," Reed said in a smile when asked by CBS 8 if it felt good to knock out that goal with still one game to go. "I was ecstatic on the sideline smiling."
Quarterback Grant Sergent knows why Reed is the go to guy catching the ball.
"He is my go to guy because we ask him to do a lot and he always delivers," Segent said. "I trust him. I trust if there is a timing route he will be there and be open."
What Reed has been able to do this season is getting him noticed to maybe play at the pro level.
"A little bit for sure," Reed said about scouts recognizing his talents. "Scouts down at practice. Kind of talking to some people, agents too. It's been big time. I don't really know what to expect. It's my first time kind of dealing with it but it is a blessing and it's amazing."
With just one game to go in his time at USD, he hopes to put on one more show for the Toreros. Then he hopes to pursue his dreams of playing in the National Football League.
"I couldn't even put it into words," Reed said on what it would mean to him to go pro. "That would mean the world. Cause that's always been a dream of mine since I was a little kid to play in the NFL. To see that come true would be amazing."
