DENVER – Remember the TV and Internet coverage of Balloon Boy? If not, it all happened in October 2009 when a mylar balloon floated above the Colorado plains and everyone thought there was a little boy stuck inside.
That is what his parents, Richard and Mayumi Heene, told Larimer County Sheriff's officers. They claimed little Falcon Heene had climbed inside, and the balloon accidently released. People around the world followed the saga, holding their breath.
When the balloon finally came down, no one was in it. News media later found out it was a hoax that the Heene's came up with to get media coverage, in hopes of landing a reality TV show.
Now, five years later, Monarch High School is getting ready for the National Premier of "Balloon Boy the Musical." It was written by Billy Recce, a senior in high school in New York state. He wanted to show just how obsessed everyone can be with the media, and why people should really focus on love of family instead.
After he wrote the musical, it won a contest sponsored by the National Thespian Society.
The premiere of "Balloon Boy the Musical" runs Nov. 6 and 7 at 7 p.m. at Monarch High School in Louisville.
There will also be performances on Nov. 8 at 2 and 7 p.m.
