Mandy Moore is expanding her family!
The 40-year-old This Is Us star announced via Instagram on Friday that she is expecting her third child with husband Taylor Goldsmith. The couple, who are already parents to sons August "Gus," 3, and Oscar "Ozzie," 1, eagerly anticipate the arrival of a baby girl.
Moore shared the joyous news with her 5.5 million followers by posting an adorable photo of Gus and Ozzie wearing shirts that read "Big" and "Middle," respectively. The heartwarming image is accompanied by a sweet caption: "Sometimes life imitates art. The third in our own Big Three coming soon. Can’t wait for these boys to have a baby sister. 💓💓💓"
The reference to "life imitating art" nods to Moore's role on the hit NBC drama This Is Us, where she portrayed Rebecca Pearson, a mother of three. In the show, the Pearson family's three children -- Kevin, Kate, and Randall --are affectionately known as "The Big Three," a nickname given to them by their father, Jack Pearson. In a touching parallel to her character's life, Moore is now expecting a third child, just like her on-screen persona.
In a candid post shared on Instagram in January, the actress-singer revealed she was once told that pregnancy may not happen for her.
"I’ve always wanted to be a mom. Before bringing my two boys into the world with my love, @taylordawesgoldsmith, I was a mom to many many cats and at times, just as many dogs (and admittedly today, I still am) 🙃. But there was a time when I thought I might not be able to have kids. I remember when the doctor told me there was a slim chance of getting pregnant… and then lo and behold to our surprise, I became pregnant with Gus.💗," she shared next to a picture of herself as a child.
In the post, which was also shared on the This Was Us Instagram account, Moore explained how her role as family matriarch Rebecca Pearson prepared her for motherhood.
"Motherhood is a beautiful, messy, sleepless gift and to have two kiddos under two…whew!!!😮💨," she wrote. "Playing Rebecca on #ThisIsUs actually prepared me for it a bit — like changing a diaper for the first time and running around set with 'triplets.' Being a mom on This Is Us to triplets at various stages of life and now being a mom to Gus and Ozzie, well, I’ve learned that as hard as you try and as good intentioned as you may be, it is impossible to 'get it right' all of the time."
Moore ended her message with one of her character's pivotal quotes.
"Rebecca Pearson said it best: 'It's my job to keep standing there with my arms wide open, waiting for you to maybe someday fall inside if you needed it. And if you do, I'll love you," she wrote. "And if you don't I'll love you too — because that's what it means to be a parent. You'll see one day. And to that I say, Rebecca, I see it! #ThisIsUs and #ThatWasUs @thatwasus."
In 2021, the Dr. Death actress spoke more about her fertility journey and why she was nervous about sharing news of her first pregnancy.
In an interview with Romper -- where she appeared with her baby bump -- Moore said that she got the news of her pregnancy with Gus while she was prepping for surgery to fix an issue with her uterus.
"Because of this issue with my uterus, I was very hesitant to believe it and put any stock in it," she said at the time. "I sort of was holding my breath until 12 weeks."
Gus and Ozzie are certainly keeping Moore her toes.
In December, she shared a hilarious post from her time at Disneyland with her kids, and revealed that her oldest son isn't impressed by the fact that she is a Disney star.
"Gus isn’t interested in Tangled and really couldn't care less that mom and Rapunzel are 'close friends,'" the actress, who played Rupunzel in Tangled, shared. "Now if I knew Lightning McQueen, that would be another story 🤷♀️. Thanks for having us @disneyparks- you are always magic but seeing the world through Gus's eyes is a whole new ballgame."
She later told ET of Gus' trip to Disneyland, "He knows two Mickey Mouses, but Rapunzel was just blank. He had no idea. I've asked him to watch Tangled and he has no interest. Maybe one day it will be exciting to him that Mom knows Rapunzel really well, but at this point in his life he couldn't care less."
