'Cowboy Carter' | Inside Beyoncé's influence on western fashion

Beyoncé makes a fashion and music impact with her recent album 'Cowboy Carter.'

SAN DIEGO — Beyoncé is setting a trend in the fashion world as she emerges into a different genre with her album ''Cowboy Carter.' In her album’s front cover she is dressed in cowboy boots and hat, presenting a twist to western culture.

"So we're already seeing the trend everywhere lately. So many people are wearing the cowboy trend, the western trend, it's really been elevated and brought to a new audience," Mesa College Fashion Professor Lyndsey Johnson said.

The album features 27 songs that give people a taste of country. It’s brought a new audience to cowboy culture, a style that's been around for years.  Beyoncé's unique outfits have influenced fashion trends, and her recent style is no exception.

“Because of how established she is in the music industry she is able to like Taylor Swift, you know go from genre to genre and still be super powerful and you know the leader in that genre and I think because of that she can influence not only music but fashion as well,” Mesa College Student Shira de Jong said.

For people who want to join the fashion trend, there are some items to complete your western wear that you can probably find in your closet.

“Number one, the boots you've got have to have a good pair of boots, show those off any way you want. Hat would be number two, denim, some fringe, accessories, some rhinestones,” Johnson said.

Lyndsey said she does not see the cowboy theme going anywhere with Beyoncé having such a huge impact in the music and fashion industry.
