SAN DIEGO — If you're looking for somewhere fun and family-friendly to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year, you're in luck. San Diego's largest Lunar New Year Festival kicks off Friday at SDCCU Stadium on 9449 Friars Rd. There will be plenty of pho and fun for the whole family.
In ancient Chinese culture, lions are considered a symbol for courage and bravery. The lion dancers are used during Lunar New Year for dazzling performances, but also to scare away evil spirits, ghosts and bad fortune.
Organizers are expecting about 25,000-35,000 people to stop by this year.
SeaWorld is also getting in on the fun with the SeaWorld Lunar New Year Celebration on upcoming weekends; Jan. 18 - 20, Jan. 25-26 and Feb. 1-2. There will be hungry sea otters, Chinese acrobats, Taiko drummers and even wasabi popcorn.
