SAN DIEGO — If you are curious about purchasing an electric vehicle, but you’re still not sold on that whole “filling it up” and charging part, you are not alone. Tech-Life Expert Jennifer Jolly joins our Laura Cavanaugh to share a new program to make electric cars more affordable.
More than 60% of Americans have said they want an electric vehicle, but they aren’t sure how or where to charge them. There are fears of running out of power on the side of a freeway somewhere. But all of that range anxiety is now a thing of the past.
Ford is making a bold move to help Americans make the shift to electric. The new Ford Power Promise eliminates one of the biggest barriers to making the leap to electric.
Just about everyone who owns or leases an electric vehicle fills up from home with a home charger. With Ford, it is as easy as a plug in overnight during off-peak hours. Jolly just purchased a Ford Mustang Mach-E GT. It is an all-electric SUV that is whisper quiet and gets nearly 300 miles on a full charge. She says it costs her $7, while her gas car takes $80 to fill up.
The Ford Power Promise is giving electric vehicle customers new confidence. If you buy or lease any electric vehicle from Ford between now and January 1, they will give you a free home charging station and they will pay for installation. This includes the Ford Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning or E-transit. You can take the complimentary home charger with your or have it delivered. An expert comes out to install at no charge to you. It takes the guesswork and the cost out of installation.
Jolly says the value of the Ford Power Promise perks saved her $4,000. And by crossing over to electric, Jolly estimates that her family saves $2,000 a year not paying for gas. Now that she no longer has to make trips to the gas station, she saves valuable time charging her vehicle at home.
In terms of on-the-road charging, Ford EVs have compatible functionality to charge virtually anywhere, including at Electrify America and Tesla Supercharger stations.
