Weekend festivities underway in San Diego

It's a wild weekend in San Diego, featuring a Dodgers vs. Padres game at Petco Park, and music festivals such as Wonderfront and Gator by the Bay.

SAN DIEGO — Events are happening from corner to corner in Downtown San Diego this weekend with southern food, live music and baseball games. Traffic is expected to be a little rough — but MTS has increased service times to help out those flocking to and from the area.

Gator by the Bay

Gator by the Bay is an annual music and food festival showcasing Louisiana’s culture. It's an event that's been going on for about 21 years in San Diego.

“It's like you walked into the bayou, you walk through and you get the smells of the crawfish boiling, and the gumbo steaming up and then you hear the music from one stage to the next,” Gator by the Bay Master of Ceremonies Peter Oliver said.

10,000 pounds of crawfish made its way from the swamps and rice fields in South Louisiana to San Diego.

“We started out with about 1,200 pounds we've been doing 10,000 pounds in samples for years … we have a great time,” Gator by the Bay Participant Mitch Olivier said.

Wonderfront Festival

A couple miles down from Spanish Landing Park, the Wonderfront Music & Arts Festival got underway.

The three-day music festival returned to the San Diego Waterfront starting May 10 through May 12 and will feature performances by headliners Weezer, Beck, Kaytranada, Carly Rae Jepsen, T-Pain, Milky Chance, Dominic Fike and more.

Attendees got the chance to enjoy live music and a view of the bay.

“It's very cool, it's literally in the marina,” Wonderfront attendee Elise Clarin said.

Padres vs. Dodgers round 2

After a two to one win from the San Diego Padres against the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday, fans are ready for a rematch Saturday evening.

“Dodgers are going to win it tonight, I mean they lost yesterday but we'll give him that one,” Dodgers fan Eileena Zepeda said.

While Dodgers fans hope to score a win, some Padres fans are predicting a good game.

“I think it's going to be a low scoring game so maybe 4-2 padres I hope,” Padres fan Reggie Whitney said.

To help fans get to the game on time and avoid traffic, MTS increased its trolley service before and after games this weekend. For more details on routes and times visit sdmts.com.
