San Diego seniors take exercise class from their balconies

San Diego seniors are finding creative ways to stay fit during this stay-at-home order.

SAN DIEGO — From the middle of the street and yelling at the top of her lungs, Marina Kahn lifted her leg up and down.

"One, two, hold it!" she said to her audience at Merrill Gardens senior living facility.

Those that are most vulnerable to COVID-19 are seniors, so getting the blood pumping from their apartment can be a bit of a challenge. That's where Kahn comes in.

"They seem happy to see me," she said. "They are happy to be outside and see others and to move and stretch."

For 30 minutes a day, residents of the building get their blood pumping from their balconies.

"They get to get out, stretch, [and take a ] breath deep," said Michelle Hauser, the director of the active living program at Merrill Gardens. "It really helps with their mental outlook and keeps them feeling positive."
