SAN DIEGO — Our family did Biscuits and Gravy a lot; two hungry boys eat a lot of food.
My dad also did a variation of this for Christmas morning breakfast using chipped beef over biscuits with scrambled eggs. Just be sure to rinse the chipped beef as it is very salty.
Biscuits & Gravy recipe
- 2 packages Farmer John Sausage, skinless
- ½ cup Onion, diced fine
- 2 tablespoon butter
- ¼ cup flour
- 2 cups milk
- ¼ teaspoon pepper
- 1 batch baking mix biscuits OR 2 rolls store biscuits
Start by getting the biscuits in the oven so they will come out as the sausage and gravy is ready to serve. In a large skillet on a medium heat brown the sausage.
Once browned, remove excess fat, add onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Follow that with the butter, flour and pepper, cook for another 2-3 minutes.
Add milk, stirring vigorously to make sure all the lumps are mixed in, bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer for 5 minutes until desired thickness. If the gravy is too thick, add more milk. Split biscuits in half on a plate and top with sausage and gravy.
