OCEANSIDE, Calif. — Suja Juice, which is headquartered in Oceanside, recently paid Cal/OSHA almost $40,000 in penalties stemming from a July 2020 workplace incident that caused "serious injury" to an employee.

According to the initial Cal/OSHA citation report, issued Jan. 4, an employee was attempting to operate a water control valve and suffered a serious injury "when his foot was contacted by the rotating tumblers."

Of the two serious citations in the report, the organic juice brand was cited for exposing the employee "to a nip point between the unguarded revolving tumbler and a stationary standing platform" that caused the injury.

Frank Polizzi, a spokesman with Cal/OSHA, told News 8 that the penalties, which total $37,615, were paid Feb. 10.

"The order vacated one citation and affirmed the others with reduced penalties," he said.

In response to the Cal/OSHA settlement order, Suja Juice issued the following statement to News 8:

“Suja takes the safety and well-being of our employees as our top priority and is an integral part of our operation. This situation has been fully addressed in cooperation with CalOSHA and any further details are confidential.”
