11 freed from San Diego County jail because of faulty tests

VISTA, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say 11 people have been released from the Vista jail in San Diego County after a forensics lab botched drug tests.

County officials say the inmates — mostly people charged with low-level drug offenses — were freed after it was discovered that some blood and urine tests handled by Pacific Toxicology in Chatsworth had errors that included false positive results.

At least seven criminal cases have been dismissed and authorities told the North County Times on Monday that about 675 other cases are under review.

Problems with the lab were first made public by county prosecutors in October.

The lab was under contract with the county Sheriff's Department, which no longer uses it.
