OCEANSIDE (CBS 8) - A fire erupted inside one of the second-floor rooms of an historic Oceanside hotel early Wednesday, injuring two people, authorities said.

When fire crews arrived on the scene around 5:00 a.m. at the Dolphin Hotel at 133 South Coast Highway, they found smoke pouring out of the top and a man dangling from a window, trying to get out of his room that was fully engulfed in flames. That person was transported the UCSD Burn Center and was being treated for moderate burns. Another person was injured, but was treated and released at the scene.

The fire started in a room on the top floor and produced thick smoke, which made it tough to evacuate the hotel and also made it difficult for fire crews to see if people were still inside. However, they were able to clear the building.

Crews had the flames knocked down in about 25 minutes. Fifteen people were displaced and damage was estimated at about $100,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and the Red Cross is assisting those displaced.
