LEMON GROVE (CNS) - A 49-year-old man and his 22-year-old son were in custody Monday on suspicion of carrying out a home invasion robbery in Lemon Grove and shooting one of the occupants, leaving him critically wounded, authorities said.

A man who lives in the home in the 1800 block of Bakersfield Street was shot multiple times Sunday night, according to Jeff Weiss, a communications supervisor with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies were called to the home at 10:16 p.m., he said. What was initially reported as a hot prowl was quickly upgraded to a home invasion robbery, then a shooting, Weiss said.

Witnesses told deputies they saw two men fleeing with guns in a vehicle that had a flat tire. The flat was apparently caused by one of the witnesses who intentionally punctured a tire before the gunmen fled, Weiss said.

A responding deputy heard a vehicle being driven in the area with a flat tire and radioed for help. The vehicle was pulled over near Lemon Grove Avenue and Broadway, and two men inside were arrested, Weiss said.

The men were identified as Gregory Alan Jewell and Joshua Alan Wineski. Weiss said they are father and son and that two firearms were recovered from inside their vehicle.
