SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) — An unknown person left an American alligator at a San Diego pet shop on Tuesday.
An employee at Pet Kingdom in Point Loma said the three-foot alligator was dropped off by a person who apparently wanted to remain anonymous. The animal was left in a black tote back in front of the store.
The pet store said they immediately notified the Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Store staff said the person who left it did the right thing by dropping it off instead of releasing an invasive species into our local environment.
The store is now working to find the alligator a permanent home.
See below for pictures of the alarming animal.
EDITOR'S NOTE: This story has been corrected to reflect that the alligator was left at the store on Tuesday; an earlier version incorrectly stated that it was left on Wednesday.
