SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A reward up to $5 million was being offered Wednesday for information leading to the capture of a one-time San Diego man suspected of working for an East African terrorist organization.
Jehad Serwan Mostafa, a U.S. citizen born in Waukesha, Wis., is in his late 20s or early 30s and has served as a media expert and leader of foreign fighters for Somalia-based al-Shabaab, according to the FBI.
He was indicted in federal court in San Diego in October 2009 on charges of conspiring to provide material support to the terror group.
Mostafa, who is on the FBI's "Most Wanted Terrorists" list, has variously claimed to have been born in 1981 and 1986 and has used the aliases Ahmed Gurey, Anwar al-Amriki and Emir Anwar. He moved to Somalia in 2005.
He is about 6 feet 1 inch and 170 pounds, with a light complexion, brown hair and blue eyes. Mostafa is left-handed, generally wears eyeglasses and a full beard. He has a bachelor's degree in economics and speaks Arabic and Somali, in addition to English, according to the FBI.
The reward was posted through the State Department's Rewards for Justice program, which has paid out more than $125 million since 1984 to more than 80 people who supplied tips that led to the arrest of terrorists or prevented acts of international terrorism.
