San Antonio City Council gave the green light to move forward with $43.5 million improvements to the 22-year-old Alamodome on Thursday.
The council decided on a design team and now will begin drawing up changes. The Dome was last renovated in 2006 but this time the many improvements include:
- Widening the concourses by doubling the size.
- Upgrading building technology
- New scoreboard
- New concession stands
- Locker room space
KENS 5 spoke with San Antonians about their thoughts on the renovations. They said they welcome the renovations since it will provide jobs and make San Antonio look good.
Design planning starts next week and construction is set to begin this summer. The entire project is estimated to be complete in November 2016.
