Arrest made in deadly shooting in Carlsbad

One man was dead and another hospitalized Wednesday night after a shooting at a home in Carlsbad.

CARLSBAD (CNS) - A 27-year-old Carlsbad man was behind bars on suspicion of homicide Thursday after a fatally injured person was found in his home, police said.

David Diaz called police to his residence at 3550 Sierra Morena Drive to report a shooting at about 6 p.m. Wednesday, according to Carlsbad police officials.

Arriving officers found the victim, a man in his mid-20s, shot to death in the upstairs area of the house. The victim's identity is being withheld pending family notification. Authorities say Diaz, also inside, had minor injuries to his hands and was taken to a hospital.

Diaz was arrested and later booked into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of homicide and resisting a public official, according to police. He was being held without bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Monday afternoon.

Police released no suspected motive for the slaying and did not disclose the nature of the relationship between Diaz and the victim.
