SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Holiday shopping is upon us and bargain hunters are already lining up for Black Friday deals - even before the turkey is served.
Some bargain hunters started camping out at a Best Buy in Mira Mesa around 5:00 a.m. Monday, just for a chance to get the hottest items.
"Even if you camp out, it's a fifty, fifty chance you might not get it, but cross fingers you will," said Jeah Telebrico.
Telebrico is a Black Friday camp-out veteran.
"The thing that makes me come back is their sales are 50 percent, 80 percent off. When do you ever get that in a year, especially when Christmas is coming up, you're buying presents," continued Telebrico.
A quick scan of Best Buy's ad does show some great deals, like a 16 GB Kindle Fire for a hundred dollars, an ASUS touchscreen laptop for $250 and a 65 inch Samsung HDTV for less than a $1,000, and while it's probably a basic unit, it's still about a $400 savings.
But Best Buy's other TV door buster is a 55 incher for $500, which really isn't that great of a deal when you consider a similar TV by the same manufacturer sold for $50 less a couple months ago.
This year, Best Buy's Black Friday starts at 6:00 p.m. Thanksgiving night. But even with one less night of camping out for bargains, Mark Rhoades say it's just not worth it and many other shoppers agree with him, saying it's shocking that people line up so soon.
Best Buy is one of several retailers kicking off their Black Friday sales Thursday at 6:00 p.m. The change this year is due to a quirk in this year's calendar that shortened the stretch between Thanksgiving and Christmas, making retailers anxious about hitting their holiday sales estimates.
