CAMP PENDLETON (CNS) - Military and civilian firefighters Sunday continue to battle a brush fire that has charred 1,245 open acres in the northern reaches of Camp Pendleton.
As of 6:35 a.m., the ground and airborne crews had the blaze at 88 percent containment, base officials said. No structures have been threatened.
The blaze ignited Thursday afternoon off Roblar and Case Springs roads and posed no structural threats.
Military firefighters were being assisted by crews from Cleveland National Forest, the city of San Diego and Cal Fire. Several of the personnel suffered heat-related ailments while working to extinguish the flames, said Cal Fire Capt. Kendal Bortisser.
The cause of the blaze, dubbed the Roblar Fire, was not immediately clear, though it is not uncommon for fires to be sparked at the Marine base by live-ammunition weapons training.
