A gunnery sergeant with the Marine Special Operations Command received the Navy Cross at Camp Pendleton on Thursday.

CAMP PENDLETON (CBS 8) - A gunnery sergeant with the Marine Special Operations Command received the Navy Cross at Camp Pendleton on Thursday.

Brian C. Jacklin was honored for his actions in Afghanistan's Helmand province in 2012. Jacklin was second in command of a team that came under attack.

After his team leader and another marine were severely wounded, Jacklin took control, leading the marines out of their compound and through open terrain to an area where the wounded could be evacuated.

The Navy Cross is the second-highest military award for valor.
