LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a 9-year-old girl from California has died and her mother injured in a hit-and-run boating accident on an Adirondack lake.
Officials say Charlotte McCue of Carlsbad, California was killed when her family's 28-foot power boat was run over by another motorboat Monday evening on Lake George, about 55 miles north of Albany.
Warren County Sheriff Bud York says the girl died at the scene and her mother suffered non-life-threatening injuries. York says they were visiting relatives on vacation.
Police say the other boat was driven by 24-year-old Alexander West of Lake George, who went to the sheriff's office later to be questioned. No charges have been filed.
Police believe West and four friends had been at the annual Log Bay Day party on the lake's eastern shore.
