SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) - Now that Halloween is over, it is time to celebrate one of Mexico’s most vibrant and colorful holidays, Dia de los Muertos. The holiday honors loved ones who have died, creating elaborately decorated altars with treasured items from their lives, and traditional elements such as marigold flowers, candles, water, bread and salt.
To celebrate the holiday, Old Town icons Bazaar del Mundo and Casa de Guadalajara, are teaming up on November 1st through 3rd to give visitors an experience they will remember.
At Bazaar del Mundo, you will be able to shop until you drop from artists who have Día de los Muertos-themed work and collectibles.
If shopping isn’t your thing head straight to Casa Guadalajara. The servers will be in traditionally painted skeleton faces. There will also be holiday-themed specials such as the Muertos Margarita and the authentic Muertos Mole Dinner.
In addition to food and shopping there will also be opportunities to participate in family friendly activities – including sugar skull decorating, mask making and coloring. Throughout the weekend, there will be performances from lively Ballet Folklorico dancers and Casa Guadalajara’s world-class Mariachi band plus Chinelos dancers.
