SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) - 3.14159265359…. should we keep going? National Pi Day is celebrated every year on March 14 to commemorate one of the most special numbers around.
Pi is defined as the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. A unique aspect of the number is that the decimal representation never ends because it settles into a permanently repeating pattern.
One of the people who really gets excited about pi is Dr. David Lipson from the Biology Department at San Diego State. Dr. Lipson created some unique instruments that are based on circular scales of irrational numbers rather than the typical rational numbers that music typically uses.
News 8 celebrated National Pi day a little differently. By eating pi(e)!
Betty from Betty’s Pie Whole brought in some of her beautiful creations. She even gave a part of her secret recipe!
Betty says that March 14 is one of her busiest days of the year.
