SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) - Vultures get a bad rap, but they actually play a crucial role in the ecosystem. They’re also super awesome.
The San Diego Zoo Safari Park brought 9-year-old black vulture Duke to the News 8 Morning Extra Set to show off his feathers in front of the equally beautiful Heather Myers.
Vultures are becoming endangered and the zoo is celebrating the species with International Vulture Awareness Day at the park from September 2-4.
On that day, the zoo will feature the bird in various educational exhibits like keeper talks, feedings and interactive booths.
Vultures eat 70 percent of the world’s carrion and help mitigate the abundance of tuberculosis, botulism and anthrax.
