Cement truck crashes on freeway connector, trapping driver

A cement-mixer truck overturned on a Mission Valley freeway interchange Wednesday, leaving the driver trapped and injured, and forcing the closure of the heavily traveled connector.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A cement-mixer truck overturned on a Mission Valley freeway interchange Wednesday, leaving the driver trapped and injured, and forcing the closure of the heavily traveled connector.

The commercial vehicle toppled over on the ramp from westbound Interstate 8 to southbound State Route 163 shortly after 10:30 a.m., the California Highway Patrol reported.

The wreck blocked the roadway and left the trucker pinned underneath his rig by one of his arms, a dispatcher said. It took emergency crews about 45 minutes to jack up the vehicle enough to free the victim, after which medics took him to a trauma center. The extent of his injuries was not immediately clear.

The SigAlert was lifted for the area shortly before 1:00 p.m. and according to the CHP the traffic was moving freely again.
